Why I built STANZ

The livestream and broadcast events industry in the UK is growing fast, with the virtual events market set to grow at over 21% a year reaching $18 billion by 2030, and the sports livestreaming industry projected to nearly double to $5.9 billion by 2030.

But in my 30(ish) years working in live events, that financial growth doesn't always reach the mid to low-tier sport federations, musicians, charities or community clubs who run online & broadcast events. In fact, many are financially struggling .

This always seemed weird to me because in my experience, when fans are given a chance to support something they love, they take it:

  • the average UK sports fan will spend £116,000 supporting their team over a lifetime, and

  • charity campaigns using QR codes report a 26% uplift in donations compared to traditional methods.

But that goodwill from fans understandably  disappears if people feel 'targeted': 37% of streaming viewers have cancelled a subscription specifically because of the ads experience, and 73% of consumers actively dislike pop-up ads.

With all this in mind, I had a conviction that there must be a way for a sport federation or musician to ask fans for  support in a way that would build connection and add value for both, rather than eroding trust. So STANZ is the system I built around that feeling.

We are now buiding and testing the platform and will be launching later in 2026. Please join the mailing list for updates and test phases if you'd like to try the platform ahead of launch.

Thanks!
